European Road Freight

Freight to Europe: regular lane? Lock a rate. Regular European lanes with fixed contract rates. We plan around EU driver hours, weekend truck bans in Germany, France and Austria, and toll costs on the corridor, so the transit time you get is the one you can hold your customer to. Cover runs under CMR, with a PLN 500,000 forwarder policy behind it. You pay for the loaded leg; the empty run back is ours. Send the route and the load, and a logistician answers the same day with a format and a price.

European Road Freight: FTL & LTL Across the EU

Inside the EU, road is the mode that just works: no customs between member states, door-to-door delivery, and a truck sized to your load rather than a fixed container. The catch is that "Europe" isn't one road network, it's 27 sets of tolls, driving bans, cabotage limits and driver-hour rules that decide your transit time and your rate. Cargo Logistic Solutions runs European road freight on its contracted fleet, planning that patchwork for you, CMR-insured, with financial liability set in the contract and pricing on the A→B leg only.

We move full loads and groupage across the EU and wider Europe, dispatched from Poland and the UK with partners across the continent. Tell us the two points and the volume, and a logistician confirms FTL or LTL, a transit window and a rate the same day.

Get a quote in 15 minutes. Send loading and delivery points plus the pallet count. We reply with the format, transit and a rate.

Free movement inside the EU, and where it stops

The single biggest advantage of intra-EU road freight: goods in free circulation move between member states without customs formalities. A trailer from Poland to Spain crosses France without a border stop. That changes the moment a non-EU country is involved - Switzerland, the Balkans, and above all the UK, where post-Brexit customs, CDS declarations and safety-and-security filings apply. We handle both worlds: seamless intra-EU running, and full customs clearance where a border reappears.

Transit times across the EU

Indicative FTL times between our dispatch bases and key markets, planned around driver hours and driving bans, not straight-line distance:

Lane

Approx. distance

Typical FTL transit

Poland → Germany

600–1,100 km

1–2 days

Poland → France

~1,500 km

2–3 days

Germany → Spain

~1,800 km

Poland → Spain

2,300–2,800 km

3–4 days

Benelux → southern Europe

~1,700 km

2–3 days

Groupage adds 2–4 days for consolidation. EU driver-hour rules cap driving at 9 hours a day (10 twice a week) with a 45-hour weekly rest, so long lanes are paced by law, not just kilometres.

The rules that shape every EU lane

Three things separate a carrier that quotes a realistic date from one that misses it:

  • Cabotage. A foreign truck may run only three domestic jobs within seven days of an international delivery, then pause four days. We plan lanes around it rather than risk a roadside fine.
  • Driving bans. Sunday and public-holiday HGV bans in Germany, summer-Saturday limits in France, night bans in Austria and Switzerland, all built into the schedule.
  • Tolls, and they're rising in 2026. CO₂-based LKW-Maut in Germany, Poland's e-TOLL up ~40% in February 2026, French péage, a new Dutch per-km charge from 1 July 2026, and Alpine section tolls. We quote these into the A→B price.

Country lanes we run

European road freight is really a set of specific corridors, each with its own quirks. Our highest-volume destinations have dedicated pages:

  • Germany - the EU's busiest freight market; CO₂ Maut and Sunday bans planned in.
  • Poland - our central hub on the A2/A4 corridors.
  • Spain - reefer-heavy produce lanes via Irún-Bordeaux.
  • France - the north-south transit spine, péage-tolled.
  • Italy - Alpine crossings and northern industrial clusters.

Shipping to another European country? We cover the EU and wider Europe, send origin and destination and we confirm the lane, transit and rate.

What determines the price

  1. Distance and the lane, motorway routing, not straight-line kilometres.
  2. FTL vs LTL, a dedicated trailer vs consolidated space.
  3. Vehicle, curtainsider, reefer or low-loader base rates differ.
  4. Tolls, the 2026 increases above, fed into the rate.
  5. Cabotage and repositioning, balanced against our A→B model so you don't pay the empty leg.
  6. Season and urgency, produce peaks and express slots.

For repeated European lanes we set up contract lanes: a fixed rate through the year, reserved vehicles and a dedicated manager.

Beyond Europe

For origins and destinations outside the continent, road alone won't do it. We combine it with multimodal transport (sea or air for the long leg) and run our trucks for first- and last-mile across Europe. Within Europe, though, road is almost always the faster, cheaper answer.

Request a route quote and we'll come back with pricing and the next available slot the same day.

FAQ
  • Do I need customs paperwork for road freight within the EU?

No, for goods in free circulation moving between EU member states, there are no customs formalities at internal borders, which is what makes intra-EU road fast. Paperwork returns only when a non-EU country is involved, such as Switzerland or the UK, and we handle that clearance for you.

  • How does cabotage affect my delivery?

Cabotage limits how many domestic jobs a foreign truck can do in another EU country, three within seven days of an international delivery, then a four-day pause. It rarely affects your delivery directly, but it shapes how we route and reposition vehicles, which is why we plan lanes around it rather than risk delays or fines.

  • Why do transit times vary so much between EU countries?

Because driving is paced by law and geography, not just distance: driver-hour limits, Sunday and holiday HGV bans in countries like Germany, and Alpine restrictions all add time. A shorter lane through a ban-heavy corridor can take longer than a longer clear one. We plan around the calendar to give a date we can hold.

  • Are the 2026 toll increases included in your quote?

Yes. The higher German CO₂ Maut, Poland's ~40% e-TOLL rise, French péage and the new Dutch per-km charge from July 2026 are all built into the A→B rate we quote, so there's no separate toll surcharge on your invoice.

  • Can you deliver to any European country?

Yes. We cover the EU and wider Europe. High-volume lanes like Germany, Poland, Spain, France and Italy have dedicated pages, but any European destination is quoted the same way: send the origin, destination and volume and we confirm the lane, transit window and rate.
