FTL - Full Truck Load Transport Across Europe

A full truck load means exactly that: your cargo, one trailer, one direct route from pickup to delivery - no consolidation, no waiting for other shipments to fill the space around yours. Cargo Logistic Solutions runs FTL road transport across Europe with our contracted fleet, sealed on departure and priced by the kilometre, not by weight tables.

What FTL Actually Means

Full Truck Load doesn't require you to physically fill the trailer - it means the trailer is dedicated to your shipment alone, moving directly from collection to delivery without stopping at a consolidation hub. This is the difference from LTL/Groupage, where your cargo shares space with other shipments and the route includes hub stops for sorting. FTL trades some cost efficiency for speed and predictability - no consolidation delay, no risk of damage from other cargo sharing the trailer, and a transit time you can plan around exactly.

We run FTL on our contracted fleet: tented semi-trailers (13.6 m, 92 m³, up to 24 t, from €1.25/km), refrigerated trailers (13.6 m, 88 m³, up to 22 t, from €1.55/km), and specialist bodies including container carriers, low-loaders, and tankers depending on the cargo.

Why FTL Is the Right Choice

  • Direct route, no hub stops. Your cargo goes straight from A to B - the transit time you're quoted is the transit time you get, without the +2–4 day buffer that consolidation adds to LTL shipments.
  • Sealed on departure. The trailer is sealed at loading and only opened at delivery, giving a clear chain of custody with no intermediate handling.
  • No shared-load damage risk. Nothing else is loaded, unloaded, or shifted around your cargo en route.
  • You pay for the leg, not the empty return. Our rate covers your A→B movement - we don't build an empty return leg into your price.
  • Predictable for high-volume or time-sensitive cargo. If you're shipping enough to fill or nearly fill a trailer, or your cargo can't tolerate consolidation delay, FTL is almost always the better fit over LTL.

What Affects FTL Cost

  • Distance - priced per kilometre on the direct route, with our rates starting from €1.25/km for standard tented trailers and €1.55/km for refrigerated.
  • Trailer type - specialist bodies (reefer, low-loader, tanker) cost more than a standard tented trailer.
  • Border crossings - international routes add customs handling time, particularly for non-EU destinations.
  • Tolls and road charges - Maut, péage, and similar national road charges are factored into the per-kilometre rate for the relevant countries.
  • Seasonality - capacity tightens around peak periods (harvest season for agricultural cargo, pre-holiday retail volumes), which can affect availability and rate.
  • Insurance and declared value - high-value cargo carries a higher insurance component, reflected in the total rate.

Why Choose Cargo Logistic Solutions for FTL Transport

We run FTL on our contracted fleet, not subcontracted capacity, which means the trailer type and driver you're quoted is the one that shows up. Every shipment travels under CMR convention liability, sealed at departure, insured, and tracked by GPS with a dedicated logistics contact available around the clock. With offices in Poland, Spain, Germany and the UK, we run direct FTL routes across the corridors our clients move on most. FTL is one of the core shipment types we run alongside LTL, temperature-controlled, and oversized cargo formats.

FAQ
  • Does FTL mean my trailer has to be completely full?

No - FTL means the trailer is dedicated to your shipment alone, regardless of how much space your cargo actually occupies; it's about exclusivity of the trailer, not maximum fill.

  • How much faster is FTL than LTL?

FTL moves directly from pickup to delivery with no hub stops, while LTL typically adds 2–4 days for consolidation and de-consolidation at sorting hubs.

  • Is my cargo covered by insurance during FTL transport?

Yes, every FTL shipment is insured and travels under CMR convention liability, which governs carrier responsibility for loss or damage during international road transport.

  • Do I pay for the truck's return journey?

No, our FTL rate covers your A→B leg only; we don't build an empty return leg into the price you're quoted.

  • What trailer type is used for my shipment?

It depends on your cargo, standard tented trailers for general freight, refrigerated for temperature-sensitive goods, and specialist bodies (low-loader, tanker, container carrier) for specific cargo types.
